Risks specific to children

Children face particular risks online: exposure to inappropriate content, cyberbullying, online predators, excessive data collection by apps and games, and screen dependence. They do not always have the maturity to judge these risks and protect their privacy.

Communication and education

Talking is the first line of defence. Speak openly with your children about online risks without frightening them. Explain why privacy matters and how to protect their personal information. Set clear rules together for using the internet and social media.

Parental control tools

Parental controls can help filter inappropriate content and limit screen time. iOS and Android have built-in controls. Third-party apps such as Qustodio or Net Nanny offer more features. These tools do not replace parental supervision and conversation, though.

Social media and privacy

Help your children set up their social media accounts with strict privacy settings. Explain the risks of sharing personal information, their location or photos. Teach them to recognize and report inappropriate behaviour online.

Legal protections

The GDPR and Law 25 give minors special protection. Companies must get parental consent before collecting data from children under 13 (16 in some countries). Get to know these rights and do not hesitate to use them.
